Minimalist Beauty: Makeup For a 5-Day Trip

What's in my travel makeup bag

When I travel I like to pack as light as I can. A couple years ago I only traveled with a small carry on for a 10-day trip to the Philippines. For a recent 5-day trip to visit family in Northern California I challenged myself to pack everything I needed in just a personal bag.

What I didn’t show in the video was everything in my makeup bag, which is pictured above. I did have a small jar of moisturizer that I stuck in a small plastic bag along with my deodorant. I actually could’ve done without the eyeshadow and tinted moisturizer because I didn’t even use these products. I ended up using the blush as eyeshadow.

Here’s a list of products I packed:
Simply Vera by Vera Wang Skin Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer
NARS Blush in “Final Cut”
Sante Eyeshadow Trio No.2
Wet N Wild Mega Protein Waterproof Macara
NARS Velvet Lip Glide No. 54
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Navy
Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil
Plus blush brush, eyelash curler, small nail file, and tweezer

If I had to pare the makeup down even further, I would have brought my absolutely must-have items: brow pencil, blush, and mascara. I would have doubled the use of the pencil as an eyeliner.

As for shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste, I borrowed what I needed from my family. I did my hair in a side ponytail or messy bun, so I didn’t pack a hair straightener either.

It was nice not having to schlep luggage around. Fortunately, I was staying with family so I was able wash a few clothing items that got covered in dog hair.

What about you? What’s your must-have makeup products when you travel?
