Battle of the Eye Creams

Battle of the Eye Creams

If there’s one piece of beauty advice I would give my 30-year-old self, it would be: Plaster your face with tons of moisturizer and make sure you get the areas around your eyes really good.

I remember the first time I noticed lines around my eyes. It was about 10 years ago and I had taken a picture with one of my friends. I immediately I saw those first signs of adulthood. Nowadays it doesn’t bother me as much, but it would be nice to keep the lines, bags, and sags to a minimal.

I had the opportunity to try out two moisturizing creams: Made From Earth’s Chamomile Eye Therapy and Somaluxe’s Stem Cell + Peptide Complex. Which one would work better for my skin?

The Made From Earth Chamomile Eye Therapy is a rich cream with an herb-like scent. If you’re sensitive to scent, this eye cream may be too strong from you. It’s designed to be used for 5 days straight with a period of 2-4 days off. I used it all around my eyes at night, especially under my eyes to help with the bags. My skin absorbed the cream pretty quickly, leaving it feeling soft and very hydrated.

What I like about the Chamomile Eye Therapy is that it contains organic and natural ingredients including Vitamin C, Vitamin E, avocado, organic aloe vera, organic coconut, cocoa butter, and many more good minerals. It comes in a small 1 oz. jar, but a little goes a long way. I’ve used it for about 2 months and barely used a third of the jar.

The Somaluxe Stem Cell + Peptide Complex promises “clear, luminous skin and over time fine lines and wrinkles are less visible.” The texture is not as thick as the Chamomile Eye Therapy and it has a light, pleasant scent.

Somaluxe Stem Cell + Peptide Complex is an anti-aging formula consisting of organic plant stems cells and a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, which helps to replenish and retain moisture in the skin. I remember an esthetician telling me that hyaluronic acid is one of the most important ingredients for aging skin.

As someone who is very conscious about what I put on my face, I was a little hesitant to use the Somaluxe product because of the super long list of ingredients. Although it does contain many organic ingredients, there are additives and preservatives such as xanthan gum, polyglyceryl-10 laurate, butylene glycol, etc. that can be irritating to the skin. See the full list of ingredients on the product page. I didn’t have any issues using the product, but then again I don’t have sensitive skin.

I used the Chamomile Eye Therapy on my right side and the Stem Cell + Peptide Complex on my left eye for two months. I actually didn’t see a significant difference between the two products around my eyes, except that lines on the left side do appear to have diminished. Both products have helped with the puffiness under the eyes.

If I had to choose one to use on a daily basis, though, it would definitely be the Chamomile Eye Therapy because it has less preservatives and more organic ingredients. I’ve actually used it all over my face and not just around the eyes. The Somaluxe cream could be used all over the face as well.

Made From Earth’s Chamomile Eye Therapy (marked down to $14 from $22.99 as of the writing of this article) is also much more budget friendly than Somaluxe’s Stem Cell + Peptide Complex ($54.99 for 2 oz. jar).

Do you use any eye creams? What has been your experience trying out different products?
