It’s still winter in many parts of the world, but for some reason San Diego is perhaps experiencing an early spring. Lately it’s been unusually warm during the day and chilly at night. The weather can be extremely moody at times, so I’ve decided to keep my wardrobe intact and not put away my summer clothing.
Integrating your spring or summer clothing into winter outfits not only will save you money, but it challenges you to get more creative with your wardrobe.
Here are a few ideas on how to turn your summer clothing into cute winter outfits, including a couple of ideas from Christina Pearce, founder and designer of Lilika Designs.
Put a Blazer On It
Winterize a dress by putting on a blazer or jacket over a dress and pairing it with your favorite boots. You’d probably need a pair of tights too, especially in colder climates. Because I love a cute beret, I’d wear one to match the boots and throw on a warm scarf too.

Peplum tops worn with skirts were very popular last spring/summer, and you can still wear them during the winter. Again, just throw on a blazer (or a jean jacket for a more casual look) and wear with tights and leg warmers with booties.

Throw On a Cardigan or Sweatshirt
I love to wear oversized cardigan sweaters with summer dresses. You could also wear a sweater or one of those open cardigan sweatshirts with a crop top and jeans.
Layer With Long-Sleeved Tops
Wear a long-sleeved top or turtleneck underneath a loose-fitting tank top or short-sleeved jumpsuit to create instant warmth.
Pile on Tights, Long Socks, and Boots
Come to think of it, you can winterize just about any summer dress or shorts by wearing tights, a cute pair of long socks and knee high boots. You could also try opaque tights, leg warmers and booties for an 80’s vibe.
The key here is piling on the layers because what’s the point of looking cute if you’re not warm?!
