March is National Nutrition Month, but actually every day of the year should be considered nutrition day. Being mindful of what you eat is key to successful weight loss and living an overall healthier lifestyle.
Nutritionist Amanda Foti of the new weight loss system Selvera offers these top tips to help you with your weight loss goals:
Start small. Goals that are too big are likely to fail. Think of practical day-to-day changes that you can make to transition into spring.
Leave room for an indulgence. There is going to be more than one time throughout the year that there will be a cause for a splurge. Make sure your plan has an allowance for a discretionary treat so you can have your cake with no guilt.
Struggling with your fitness goals? Get hooked up with a tracking system like a simple pedometer or something more technical like a Jawbone Up or Fitbit, which are great ways to get you moving and motivated.
Out of these three weight loss tips, I think the first one is the most important. I’m all about starting small or taking baby steps each day. Even if you think that you don’t have the time to exercise, you can surely carve out 5 minutes a day for some type of movement. Check out this 5-minutes a day exercise plan I came up with. You could even do these exercises at your desk to get your heart rate up.
Even if you’re not trying to lose weight or just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, good eating habits start with doing little things each day like paying attention to ingredients when you go grocery shopping, eating smaller portions, or replacing that mid-day snack of cookies or chips with a piece of fruit.
