You could be wearing the cutest outfit or hottest makeup, but without true self-confidence those things don’t mean that much. When you don’t have confidence in yourself it shows in everything that you say or do. Self-confidence is also the foundation of inner beauty – it gives you permission to be who you are and attract what you want in life.
Do you feel like you could use a little help in boosting your self-confidence? I came across this article that offers 10 tips, but I’d like to expand on some of the tips that were offered and share a few of my own:
Be authentic – When you stand in your own power and stay true to who you are, you begin to feel more confident in opening up and sharing your thoughts and feelings without worrying about what other people think about you. Sometimes it may feel easier to just be agreeable with other people because you want to feel accepted by the crowd, but it’s much better to stand up tall and be your own person. Don’t be afraid to express your true feelings. Be your own bad-ass, beautiful self!
Say good-bye to Negative Nancy – You know that bitch that likes to pop a squat in your mind and tell you how ugly, fat, stupid, etc. you are? I believe she’s the #1 reason why most people don’t have confidence in themselves. Kick Negative Nancy to the curb and tell her to get out of your life forever. She’s tricky, though, and will try over and over again to sneak back into your head. That’s why it’s important to start off your day saying positive beauty affirmations and to surround yourself with positive people who only have your best interests at heart.
Visualize yourself as a confident person – Close your eyes and imagine meeting the most confident, powerful version of yourself. What would she look like? What would she be wearing? Reach out, shake her hand, and feel that confident energy transfer over to you.
Invest a little time in your appearance – I used to think that outward appearances were not important, but it is true that how you look does affect how confident you feel about yourself. Spend time taking care of your body by exercising, try out a new sassy hairdo, and dress your best wherever you go. Even if you’re just taking your kids to school or going to the grocery store, throw on a pair of nice jeans. Sloppy sweats and pajama bottoms should stay at home!
Do something bold – Maybe you try a fabulous red lipstick for the first time or dress in a style that you’ve wanted to try out for awhile. When you do something that’s out of your comfort zone, you start to build confidence. One of my favorite shows to watch is What Not to Wear because you see these women get rid of their old wardrobes and get a head-to-toe makeover that transforms their whole perception of themselves. They come out of the experience feeling more confident and beautiful.
In what ways can you give your self-confidence a boost?
