One Sunday after brunch my friend and I browsed through a couple shops in downtown San Diego hoping for a little fashion inspiration. Urban Outfitters had us reminiscing over the 90’s, and this hat shop called Goorin Brothers offered a reminder how easy it is to fix a bad hair day with a beautiful hat.
Before you moan and groan about this idea that hats somehow don’t look good on you, let me ask: Have you tried on different types of hats? And have you gotten other people’s opinions on how you look in a hat? I used to think I didn’t look good in hats either, but then I fell in love with this Puma fedora hat, and when I tried it on I actually liked what I saw in the mirror. To this day I get compliments whenever I wear it.
So back to this cute hat shop. Goorin Brothers hat shops are actually a chain with many stores around the country. It all started back in 1895 by a man named Cassel Goorin who created custom-made hats and sold them off his horse cart in Pennsylvania. The company wants to bring that personal and community vibe back to hat shops. This was my first time in one of their shops, and I love that they have kept the vintage aura of the store and displays.
I fell in love with the hat I’m wearing in the picture above, which I’m adding to my wish list. It definitely looks and feels like a $140 hat.
What are your favorite types of hats to wear?
