A 5 Minutes-a-Day Exercise Plan for the Holidays

Holiday fitness in 5 minutes a day

The holidays can be a big challenge for many of us when trying to eat healthy or lose weight. I certainly had my share of yummy temptations this past weekend while visiting my parents for Thanksgiving. Then between traveling, spending time with family and friends, shopping for gifts, and attending a party, I made that same old excuse that I often say around this time of the year:
I don’t have time to exercise!

I decided to banish that excuse for good and make a commitment to exercise at least 5 minutes a day for the rest of the year. That’s totally doable, right? After all, if I can find an hour each day to read Fifty Shades of Grey, (Yes, I’m finally reading it!) then surely I can carve out 5 minutes for exercise regardless of where I am or what the weather looks like.

Here’s the plan:

Sunday: Lift weights (work on biceps and triceps); Do 50 situps and 50 squats

Monday and Wednesday: This quick 5 minute cardio workout at home (or wherever I am) with this video on YouTube. I’m not exactly a huge fan of burpees, but I know how effective they are for weight loss. There are actually tons of workout videos on YouTube if I decide to mix it up.

Tuesday and Thursday: These are my usual days for walking and doing stairs with my friend. We usually walk for 45 minutes, but if for some reason we can’t go because of the weather then I will lift weights at home.

Friday: Via PopSugar are these 5 easy exercises that can be done anywhere without any equipment.

Saturday: Focus on the abs; One of my goals is to lose some of the belly fat, so I’m dedicating one day to ab exercises. I like this one from Jessica Smith…

Hopefully this will inspire you to create your own exercise plan for the holidays. I find that it’s easier to stick to a habit when it’s written down and added to the To Do list for the day. Remember that these exercises only take 5 minutes, so don’t get caught up in excuses!
