Sassy City Chicks Event: 5 Tips For Shopping Sample Sales

Handbags, Earrings, Accessories, Oh My!

Last Thursday night I attended the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash in downtown San Diego. I’ve only been to one sample sale previous to this event, which was awhile back so I had a fuzzy recollection of how these events go.

I highly recommend attending a Sassy City Chicks fashion bash because you’ll find some awesome deals. (Upcoming events are in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York.) I snagged a dress and a top for $5 each!

If you’ve never attended a sample sale before, I want to share some tips because it’s something you have to prepare for both mentally and physically…

Tip #1:  Eat something before you shop.  The Sassy City Chicks event had drinks and wine, but no food.  Shopping on an empty stomach makes you grouchy!  This is a given, but sometimes I forget.

Tip #2:  Get there early.  There will be a line.  Women + Great Bargains on Clothes + Free Spa Services = Need I Say More?  For some crazy reason I didn’t think there would be that many people, but I was so, so wrong.

Tip #3:  If you do drink alcohol, have a drink to relax.  When you’re surrounded by a crowd of women pushing and clamoring, it can put you in a pissy mood.  At one time I got the stare-down from someone who obviously didn’t like that I was in “her space”.

Tip #4:  Wear something that you can easily get in and out of.  There’s a “community” style dressing room, so if you feel uncomfortable undressing around other women, then you should wear clothes that can quickly be taken off and put back on.

Tip #5:  Bring cash.  Many of the vendors at Sassy City Chicks events won’t charge tax if you pay with cash.  I don’t know if that’s true of all sample sale events, but it’s good to have cash just in case you run across a vendor who doesn’t accept debit/credit cards.

Sample Sale Shopping

Overall, I had a good time, but I did realize that sample sale shopping just isn’t for me… I’m a low-key, relaxed shopper. I’d much rather shop online or places with minimal crowds.
