Changing Attitude Towards Plastic Surgery and Liposuction

There is a certain stigma associated with plastic surgery, and in the past I’ve been very vocal about being against it. There used to be a time when I would judge someone for altering their physical appearance, but then I realized that I was going against my philosophy of “no judgements”. Who am I to decide what’s best for you or to say something negative about you if I don’t even know you?

For instance, I came across a list of celebrities who had undergone (or allegedly undergone) liposuction, and some of these women I personally admire – like Janet Jackson.

If you do decide to do something like get liposuction because you think it will make you happy, then by all means do it. But ask yourself if it will truly cure the insecurities that you feel about yourself.

I would say that Kate Winslet sums up my thoughts about plastic surgery nowadays:

“Plastic surgery and breast implants are fine for people who want that, if it makes them feel better about who they are. But, it makes these people, actors especially, fantasy figures for a fantasy world. Acting is about being real being honest.”–Kate Winslet

I admit that even today I still look at myself in the mirror and say, “Oh, I wish my stomach…” or “Look at that flab…” It’s so easy to focus on the negative, but I’m learning to turn those thoughts around and to just simply say, “I love you.” It does take time to love yourself completely. It’s like any relationship you have in life.
